"Presencia". (2021)
Sound work and experimental video poem.
"Presence," drawn from the poem of the same name in my collection El borde exterior, marks a significant step as my inaugural audiovisual work and the beginning of my visual explorations. This piece plunges viewers into an eerie and mysterious forest, a spectral realm devoid of human inhabitants save for the fleeting figure of a small child. This child, embodying the spirit, navigates an environment where natural forms manifest as spectral entities, blurring the lines between the tangible and the ethereal. The visual landscape, characterized by its enigmatic atmosphere and ghostly natural imagery, sets a contemplative, almost unsettling tone.
The accompanying electroacoustic composition is crafted with a lo-fi aesthetic, employing repetitive, fragmentary motifs from a modular synthesizer and analog sound processors. These sonic elements, occasionally coalescing into subtle drones, create a textural soundscape that mirrors the ambiguous and mysterious visuals. As my first venture into the audiovisual domain, "Presence" serves as an intimate reflection on the interplay between sound and nascent visual narratives, inviting a deep sensory engagement and prompting reflection on the unseen and the symbolic resonance of the natural world.
